Susan DiClemente

I have known Lesley for several years, in multiple capacities; first, as a colleague, then as a mentee, and now as a professional coaching client. Over the years, I have witnessed Lesley's growth into a true leader, one who understands that ensuring the happiness of the team (and herself) is how you deliver your best results. Lesley shines in the following areas of Executive Skills: effective communication, strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, people management, and operational optimization. Through the years, Lesley has managed every change and unexpected pivot with grace and a willingness to shift as needed. Her agility in this space makes her a great leader, collaborator, and contributor. I've enjoyed watching the professional evolution of this amazing person.

I first met Lesley at the SLAS Europe 2024, where she interviewed me as a winner of the Tony B Award. During the interview, I could learn about her scientific experience and noticed her enthusiasm for helping other scientists grow in their careers, which led me to ask for her mentorship.

During the period of writing and defending my Ph.D thesis, her advice contributed to overcoming the difficulties of that crucial moment of my career, and preparing with confidence the whole process.

When I started my search for a new position, Lesley helped me to explore suitable opportunities and different perspectives for my career. Her support contributed to making me gain confidence to reach other teams and to improve my approach to the interview process.
Even when she was busy or struggling, she always made time to help and support me.

I strongly recommend Lesley as a mentor. Her experience and passion for helping new generations of scientists improve their communication skills and confidence helped me to grow and overcome challenges in my career.
I continue my connection with Lesley as I keep searching for my next position and to grow my career as a researcher.

My experience as a special education biology high school teacher deeply informs and strengthens the mission of Nashoba Valley Life Sciences. I have spent years working directly with students who face a range of learning and accessibility challenges, and I’ve seen firsthand the transformative impact that inclusive, hands-on science education can have. This background has equipped me with the skills to design curriculum and learning environments that meet diverse needs, and to advocate for students who are often overlooked in traditional STEM pipelines. It has also instilled in me a deep understanding of the systemic barriers that underserved and disabled students face, which drives my commitment to creating equitable opportunities through our programs.

One of my proudest accomplishments is having the courage to start Nashoba Valley Life Sciences—a leap of faith rooted in my passion for education and belief in every student's potential. Launching this company has allowed me to turn years of teaching experience into a broader mission, one that reaches beyond the classroom to uplift entire communities. But what truly inspires me are the small, powerful moments of impact. This past school year, a nonverbal student I had worked with all year approached me on the last day and, for the first time, spoke aloud to tell me how much she enjoyed my teaching. That moment reminded me why I do this work: to create safe, inclusive spaces where students feel seen, supported, and capable of achieving more than they ever imagined. Starting this company is a continuation of that mission—amplifying those moments of transformation on a larger scale.
